Product Description

Trusted with the dangerous task to destroy an ancient magical ring that threatens all that is good, Frodo is forced to leave his peaceful home. To help Frodo, a Fellowship is formed —Aragorn the Ranger, Gandalf the Wizard, Legolas the Elf, Gimli the Dwarf, Boromir a Man of Gondor, and Frodo’s Hobbit friends Sam, Merry and Pippin. Players relive the legend through the LEGO minifigures, as they explore wonders, solve timeless riddles, and overcome endless foes in their quest to destroy the Ring.

5Excellent Experience in Lego Middle Earth
By tommyboynod
If you are a fan of Lord of the Rings, especially the films, then this is the perfect game for you. I've played only bits here and there of other Lego games, but the overall format is basically the same - interacting with the environment in specific ways to progress, collecting chips, finding collectibles, unlocking characters - as you journey through the land. It seems tedious, and in other Lego games I found it to be, but with the LOTR material as a backdrop, I couldn't get enough. This isn't intended to be a comprehensive review, but I wanted to point out the parts of the game that stood out to me the most.+Audio: The music and voice acting clips are taken directly out of the movies, and are really the backbone of the game. Even the in-game sounds for when a character gets hit or dies are taken right from the films. There was no other way this could have been done and hearing all these sounds again after not watching the movies in a while brings back fond memories.+Humor: I was a little unsure of how the "Lego humor" would play out in a mostly serious storyline, but thought that these elements were sprinkled in nicely and actually made me laugh out loud at times, including synchronized prancing Rohirrim, Eowyn pulling Theoden's lego-beard off, Celeborn's "servitude" of Galadriel, and the mandatory Dwarf-tossing. Great job here.+Characters: I couldn't believe how many characters you could unlock in this game, especially the variety and some lesser known faces I didn't expect to see at all, including Tom Bombadil, Radagast the Brown, Halbarad, and Prince Imrahil. You always have an active party of two, but can quickly switch between party members appropriate for that section of the story in story mode. In free play mode you select a custom party of nine (for some reason you can't actually select each spot individually before starting a stage, only the leader and the game picks the rest of the party for you, but swapping characters in and out in-game is easy enough). Each character has its own specific abilities that you need to interact with certain environments. It's pretty amusing to have Gandalf the White and the Mouth of Sauron working together, or to have an Uruk-hai Berserker help Rosie Cotton up to reach a crawl space, or to have the Witch King of Angmar toss Gloin over gap. The variety and quality of characters in the game makes collecting them all a pleasure. Although there are a lot of characters, some are taken up by different versions of the same. For instance, there is Sam (adventurer), Sam (elven rope), Sam (hero), Sam (journey's end), etc.--Loading Screen: As another reviewer mentioned, the loading screens between areas are incredibly long, at least 30 seconds. Not a huge issue, but annoying because you just want to keep playing. They gave you the opportunity to put the game down and go to the bathroom, at least.I put in about 15 hours getting to 100% and still wished there was more to do. There's not a whole lot of replay-ability once you get to 100%, but I still had the urge to start a new game from scratch just to spend more time in Lego Middle Earth. Highly recommended!

5I'm not really a gamer
By Michey
But I'm a huge nerd and this game is entirely too fun. I've only made it to Moria and I'm having the time of my life... well my week, I guess but seriously, so much fun. It's not crazy hard, which is good because I suck so badly at most video games, unless it's Mario or Tetris. And the 3D is actually kind of gorgeous. The only thing I can possibly complain about are the loading screens. They are ridiculously long and annoying. Other than that, amazing.

5Some good choices made this one a winner!
By AlexJouJou
Firstly I should say that I absolutely love the music from Lord of the Rings so I was overjoyed to hear it here. It makes for a very rich and enjoyable audio experience to the game. Secondly the dialogue is out of the movie - with the actual voice actors so far (the lines they said) and that makes this game even better for LOTR fans.In terms of the gameplay this is a very fun and engaging game. The different actions your characters can do are interesting - and they don't share things they can do so that makes it a little more puzzle like (getting the right person). This one is not like the Harry Potter Lego game where it tells you exactly what to do and where to do it. It has a more free range feel - although I would call it perhaps a limited free story. You have the capability to go and play different areas again - but it is not completely free roam. It's way better than Harry Potter - similar to the Lego Star Wars games although without a hub. You have a map to go back to areas - but they aren't quite as interactive as I've played in the console versions of Lego games in the past. I doubt that this game is as expansive as the console versions - and I'm o.k. with that since I enjoy playing the game with the music and the dialogue. The controls are pretty tight but there are a few minor issues - at times the characters require precision that game doesn't allow which can be a bit frustrating. The other characters you do not control do very stupid things (like repeatedly throw themselves off of ledges and such) so while you are working on a platform piece it would not be unusual to hear one of the other members "dying". It can be irritating but is not a deal or game breaker. None of the actions required has posed too much trouble - so I would class the game as easy to moderate depending on your skills. I always struggle with platforming, preferring the puzzle environment, but nothing was too difficult. I think it would be fine for any age of about 7 on up.Of course they left out pieces of the movie - I didn't expect differently but many of my favorite's are there and they've made clever use of some of the characters quirks such as one maze like keep from being seen game of get the mushroom for Merry. Those types of things make me smile. In terms of length I'm not playing for speed - it took me about 2 hours leisurely to get to Aragon joining the group and Weathertop. I did a lot of exploring though and had fun swapping characters out to see what they could do.The graphics are quite beautiful on the 3DS - they aren't stretching capacity at all but they are nice. Clear and crisp, no pixelation or stretching on my 3DS XL.Overall a winner. There have been none of the game killing glitches I encountered from other Lego Games like Batman- and this is a cut above the Harry Potter (with its sort of inane walk me through it like I'm a toddler gameplay). I don't know about the difference between the DS and the 3DS - although the 3D is nice in some places I don't turn it on all that much.
