By Tim Coogan
Perhaps one of the most long awaited games for the Nintendo 3DS, it's "Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion" (curiously once known as "Cartoon Network Superstar Rumble") !This game is pretty much your basic crossover game where some of the biggest names duke it out to see who's the last one standing. Some examples include "Super Smash Bros." and "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom". "Punch Time Explosion" pits some of the biggest names of the Cartoon Network universe such as "The Powerpuff Girls", "Ben 10 Ultimate Alien", "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack", and "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends" just to name a few. Think about it, did you ever wanted Dexter to beat the snot out of Billy AND Mandy in the world of "Chowder" or have Captain K'nuckles go up against Captain Planet in Samurai Jack's world ? Well, this game will let you do that and more !There are 18 playable characters each with their own attacks and a special move called the "Punch Time Explosion" attack. In order to use it, you must grab cubes that you get from beating up your enemies to fill up your super attack meter. Then you simply touch the lower screen and watch the fireworks fly. In addition to health items and weapons used in this game, there's also a question-mark labeled box that unleashes an assist character. Some characters are passive like Coco, Gazpacho, Peppermint Larry, and Gwen Tennyson; others are offensive like Johnny Bravo, Numbuh Two, Dee Dee, Eduardo, Kevin Leven, and Fred Fredburger. If you get a bad guy like Aku, Stickybeard, or Him, well, try to stay out of their way. While versus mode is a good way to kill some time and a few opponents, so to speak, the story mode is rather enticing. It lets you choose your character(s) and go through detailed worlds based on their shows. But is it me, or is our announcer Space Ghost Coast to Coast ? Hmm....Anyway, it's rather a fun game despite that most of the characters don't sound the same.... But you know, I really wish they'd put in much more cause it's almost less than half of what the Cartoon Network universe really consists. Examples for more playable characters would include Ed, Edd, AND Eddy as well as Generator Rex, Juniper Lee, and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Examples for different playable worlds would consist of "Camp Lazlo", "My Gym Partner's a Monkey", "Mike, Lu, and Og", "Adventure Time with Finn and Jake", and "Sheep in the Big City". And additional assist characters could consist of Sunny Bridges from "Class of 3000", Buck Tuddrussel from "Time Squad", Major Dr. Ghastly from "Evil Con Carne", and Supercow from "Cow and Chicken". Of course, that's just me.But who knows ? Maybe those and much more will become real when the game premieres on Wii, XBOX 360, and PS3. They're due out around the last quarter of this year, so in the meantime get yer brawl on 'cause this is one game you don't want to miss out on !

By Will
Just buy this game already. it's not as good as Smash bros, but Smash Bros for 3DS isn't coming out for a year or two, and if you're a CN fan, what are you waiting for? Maybe you've looked at reviews of it from game websites that gave it a bad score. That's because they compare it to Smash Bros. Hell, most of those websites don't even know what their names are! One website said Father from KND was Dexter's Dad!The character you want isn't in the game? Well, there is a console version coming out soon with more characters. The dev team said that there may be a DLC for the 3DS to get the characters the console version gets if the game sells well.Instead of Pre-Ordering a game that comes out in the winter, how about get a game now and get that game you were going to pre-order when the time comes? This game isn't as bad as critics say it is, and they give it bad reviews because they compare it to SSBB, and some people are ripping on it just because it's made by a company no one knows. Take it from me- I've actually played it and I'm a fan of CN- Well the old CN.

By David L.
Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion is a new fighting game that is currently exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. I preordered the game a week before it came out at GameStop in order to get the free t-shirt that I will never wear since it's an extra large while I'm a small. The game consists of characters and stages from the Cartoon Network universe, but I did not find any characters from the newer shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show. Maybe those will come up in the console versions due out this September.GAMEPLAY=======I already knew that this game was heavily based on the Super Smash Bros franchise when I preordered it. The developer even said that when they first revealed the game. So if you ever played Brawl or Melee or the the original, you would know what to expect if you buy this game. The L and R triggers allow you to shield, the A button allows you to grab, B allows you to use a basic attack, X allows you to jump, Y allows you to use a special attack, and you use the circle pad to move. The touch screen is used for switching between your characters during the game's story mode and for using a super attack. The super attack is kind of like a Final Smash, but the way to charge it is quite different. When damage is applied to either you or an enemy, strange blue stuff appear. Collecting them would fill a bar on the bottom screen, and when it's filled, you can use your special attack. When you use it, a VERY long animation plays and every enemy on the screen takes damage. One of the faults I find with it is that the animation plays without the stage where the players are. It seems like a lazy move by the developers to not have the long animation play with the characters. It feels like that it's not really an attack but just playing a video while pausing the game until the animation is over. I think this super attack was called a Punch Time Explosion, but I'm not too sure.STORY=====The story is very unique. I personally like the narrator's humor and how all of the Cartoon Network universes connect, and the story mode is a lot of fun. There's not a lot of senseless fighting involved compared to Brawl's Subspace Emissary, and you can pretty much skip every enemy you come across. What I find interesting are the fun minigames on the way. In the middle of a level, you can switch to a slingshot or the game changes to a first person shooter. The bosses are also a lot of fun to beat, but I find it annoying how their health is massive in some levels and very small in random levels later. My favorite boss has to be Kevin from Ben Ten.Overall=====Get this game. It may not be as amazing as a Smash Bros game, but it's a great filler while waiting for Nintendo to start the production of the Smash Bros game for the 3DS and Wii U that they promised at E3 this year. The game would be a lot better if there was online play, but it suits my tastes for now. There is plenty of content to unlock, and the gameplay is a lot of fun.
