The original portable Tetris game was a smash hit on the Game Boy system. The new Tetris: Axis game lets players use the magic of the Nintendo 3DS system to jump into the action in 3D without the need for special glasses. The game includes more than 20 different modes – some familiar, some new. Up to eight players can compete in wireless multiplayer battles, even if only one player has a game card. Tetris: Axis also makes use of the augmented-reality and SpotPass features of Nintendo 3DS.

I've been wanting another game for my 3ds, and figured this would be a great fit. I was 100% right. I love this game!!!First of all, you can play the regular Tetris game we all know and love: Marathon Mode right from the start menu. Then, on the Main menu selection screen, you have many different Tetris games you can play. Here's a list of all of them:(Featured Modes)- Marathon -(Classic Tetris)- Fever -(Play in a narrow grid and try to clear as many lines within 60 sec.)- Computer Battle -(You play against the computer in either Knockout or Normal mode)- Survival -(Pretty much self-explanatory. Blocks come up from underneath as well)(Party Modes)- Jigsaw -(Like a puzzle. You use tetris blocks to try and form the picture shown)- Fit -(You need to fit the blocks into a grid. Almost like the game "Shape Inlay")- Bombliss Plus -(You use explosive tetris blocks to try to clear the level)- Capture -(There are stars in the grid that you must surround with blocks to capture)- Sprint -(Fast paced Tetris. Must clear 40 lines as fast as possible)- Shadow Wide -(Use blocks to fill in a shape, such as a house. Try for accuracy)- Tower Climber -(Use blocks to try and climb the tower)- Stage Racer Plus -(Race through Tetris blocks with a block as your "car")(AR Games)- AR Marathon -(Same as Marathon, but uses AR card)- AR Climber -(Same as tower climber, but uses AR card)If that isn't enough, you can even play online against friends or even strangers from around the world. Also has Download play so you can play with others with only one game card in one system. In my opinion, it just makes the game a whole lot more fun playing against others. You can choose to either play with items enabled (Which can help you out, and/or even sabotage your opponent(s) block stack) or classic without items. Two of my favorite items you can throw at your opponents/help you using the "X" button is the Meteor (Blows blocks out of your opponents grid messing up their lines) and the Switch (You swap out your grid of blocks with your opponent's).I give this game a five star rating due to it's enjoyable selection of Tetris games, and for hours of non-stop fun. I highly recommend it!!!!

I have to call it how I see it. How do I review this, do I review the game for what it is or do I review the game compared to all other tetris games. If I review the game as it is...its great. Alot of fun. There is alot of options. I love the tower climber, I like the AR modes. I enjoy the odd mix of Christmas music with a new re-working of the classic tetris theme. The 3D is ok, it bothered my eyes after awhile and I don't usually have a problem with the 3D. I would never have guessed Tetris in 3D would give me trouble but it was bothering to me. I think it was that the blocks are see through. So the depth effect goes all the way to the background. But that is hard on the eyes, you want to concentrate on the blocks yet it feels like the 3D is taking you all the way to background rather then the blocks. Hard to explain words. I turned it off, its not necessary. Well thats the game, right there. Its Tetris, its fun, its colorful, it kills time. What more can you expect.Well here is the thing, I wish I never played all the Tetris games of the past, but I have. I've played all the official ones and some clones. My favorite was always the Gameboy version. Despite its simplicity, its midi music. I just loved it and even after all these years, I still love it. Over time I played various versions throughout the years. They were all good, some even very good. They all had one thing in common, they were very colorful, very bright and loud. I got bored of it. It was the same thing over and over, then on the PS3, on the Playstation Network, they released TETRIS...Tetris for the PSN. I fell in love. Because Tetris on the PSN is everything all those other Tetris games wasn't. It wasn't super colorful, it was slick, it was relaxing, cleverly designed, almost moody. It was even classy. But at the end of the day, it was still Tetris, it still had tons of gameplay modes and tons of time killing fun. Now I have two favorite versions of Tetris, Tetris on the gameboy and Tetris on the PSN. I honestly can't say which I like more. But what I know is Tetris Axis is just more of what you expect...colorful, loud...Its a very juiced up 3D version of Tetris Party. Aside from a few new game modes and some 3DS pass abilities being used. There isn't alot here that you haven't seen before.As is, this is more of the same that you usually expect from a Tetris game. I think its a little stale overall but it's still a good way to pass time.

Axis is probably the best version of Tetris to date. I haven't played Tetris DS or Party Deluxe, but I don't think they can top this :) I may get them anyways just to try them out. If you're a fan of this game, then without a doubt I would recommend this in a heartbeat. With over 20 modes, including the AR functionally, you'll never get bored as this has extreme infinite replay value! And you can do wifi, local, or download play with other 3DS gamers!! Tetris has never been this fun and you'll easily get used to the controls. But I warn you, your hands will be glued to your 3DS until the battery needs to be charged ;)
